After a good, long run, we, The ishs/Allen Project, have disbanded.
Thank you for your support for the past five years and a bit. We hope you will keep enjoying our music.
Also special thanks to all the musicians that have been part of this band, both permanent members and deps. Very special shout-outs to Paul Bonnington and Ee Shan Pang for having been part of the whole journey from A to Z. Ben Nieuwkerk also deserves a very, special mention for playing for a long time with us. Our very good friend Jon Magill has also shared the stage with us in addition to lending his gear. Very special thanks to Lachlan Davidson for recording with us. Special thanks to past deps, Corey Hall, Brae Grimes, and Matthew Charles.
We are back in Melbourne already, and ready to hit Paris Cat, 6 Goldie Place, Melbourne CBD on 15 February at 8:00pm. Tickets selling fast, so book now!
The ishs/Allen Project are going to Brisbane to do Stories Under the Sky shows!
Check us out at:
Mandy Stefanakis has been moved by Stories Under the Sky and she reviews it on Loudmouth: “But there are only a few albums that I want on constant replay, because, like all best friends, they know when to act like a caffeine fix or, alternatively, transport me out of the traffic melee. Stories Under the Sky is one of those albums and falls into the latter category.”
Stories Under the Sky was the first featured album on the 28 August 2017 episode of The New Thing on 89.7 Eastside FM Sydney. Chelsea Deeley dug the album!
A really beautiful independent release from those Melbourne guys. … It’s beautifully recorded, has a really beautiful pace, and awesome compositions, too. … follow their journey, cause it’s gonna be a really awesome one, particularly with these talented musicians at the forefront.
After a sold out premiere launch show, we will be doing a second one. This time at Oscar’s Alehouse, 7 Bayview Rd, Belgrave, Vic. Free and no bookings needed!
Saul Zavarce said on his 12 August 2017 episode of his programme Jazz Fiesta:
Nice tune by them called Summer Morning. Stories Under the Sky, the name of the CD.
Ann Bolton and Ken Turnbull host the Jazz Life programme on 94.9 Main FM Castlemaine. In the 7 August 2017 episode, Ann said:
This is the very talented group of contemporary Melbourne jazz musicians led by ade ishs on keyboard and Chelsea Allen on drums, supported by long-term members bassist Paul Bonnington and trumpeter Ee Shan Pang. … Tonight I’m going to play a gorgeous piece that I’ve quite gone mad about. It’s called Rainy Day. … I can’t get it out of my head.
We will be launching our second album, Stories Under the Sky, at Paris Cat, 6 Goldie Pl, Melbourne CBD, Vic. Book now to get your seat!

Sadly, Ben Nieuwkerk has left the band to pursue other interests. Don’t worry, we are all still in good terms each other and we are still playing together in various other outfits. We wish him well with his creative activities. We will still do one gig together at this year’s Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues.
Therefore, we are reverting back to our original line up. However, we are moving forward, exploring more with our ever growing repertoire!
We will be recording an album soon!
